A Versatile Sound Machine
We have slept with "rain" as white noise for nearly 30 years. When our aging sound machine needed replacing, I was surprised how many machines were simply white noise, not environmental sounds - and further, the tabletop space needed for them. We wanted a small machine so we could tuck it out of the way. This unit from Sharper Image meets all our needs and more .. additional cartridges for more sounds are available. It was a seamless replacement and the tinny, mechanical sound of the old unit has been replaced by newer technology. A great buy.

Exactly What I Was Looking For
This was exactly what I was looking for in the way of a sleep aid. I only use the white noise setting, so cannot comment on the other sounds. I have seen other products that apparently play/loop a pre-recorded sound track that repeats every 2-3 seconds, and when they repeat there is a slight hiccup in the sound that drove me crazy. This unit has smooth and consistent sound with no apparent artifact of sound track looping. That's what I needed. It has plenty of volume, and the easy push-button for turning it on and off is convenient and can be found in the dark by touch without looking. I also like the ability to run on batteries, which can be useful when camping with no electricity. For me, this product fit the bill perfectly. This was my second one (one for home to leave hooked up, and one for travel).
