Lots of bang for your bucks in this compact unit!
Purchased this unit for a family member who works in an office and has little time to go outside with rainy weather and short days of winter. The unit charged up easily and can be operated using the internal rechargeable battery or with the AC adapter. The built-in stand allows you to efficiently aim the light and the unit, while lightweight, is not flimsy. The light bank is just large enough to be effective while compact enough to not take up much space in a desk drawer at work. I personally tried out the lights and found it invigorating and energy renewing. Just on a fluke, I decided to put it in the room with our elderly cat depressed by all the rain. Ten minutes on the timer and voila...it visibly changed his cranky mood. Did I mention that the unit also has a built-in timer so you can set the duration of the lights? I was so impressed with this light box that I wanted one for myself! Placed an order for another and one for the mother-in-law as well. I'm told that people in the northwest (think Seattle and Alaska) know the effects insufficient daylight on their mental and physical well-being during winter. You can go online as I did and see all the pricey units that are sold for this market. I am so tickled to have found this Sharper Image product because it's reasonably priced and exceeded my expectations. I will probably use it year-round.

Portable Sunshine!
Purchased this product for a family member who works long hours and misses the benefits of daily sunshine. The unit is so small it can fit in a desk drawer so you could actually take it and use at work.The blue light emitted by the unit is pleasant and I was impressed that you can control the intensity. Nice to have a built-in timer. Best overall is that it is so compact! Well designed with carrying case and it's very easy to grasp how to use it. Just 10 minutes a day make a big difference.
