Ground contact happens too fast to feel accurately, which is why most golfers misdiagnose their own strike. The board records where the club actually met the surface and in what direction it travelled.

That mark shows whether contact was ball-first or behind the ball, and whether the path ran in-to-out or out-to-in, in a form that can be read between swings rather than reviewed later on video.
