Rise & Shine Wake Up Light Alarm Clock

This gradual wakening clock seemed a bit pricey but after reading reviews of other similar products, I decided to splurge. Best money I've ever spent! This clock wakes in a very gentle way with an increasing blue and white light box and beautiful sounds. It can also be programmed to dim down and play soothing sounds at bedtime which enhances relaxation and sleep. The range of settings and music - nature sounds are excellent. The quality of the sound system is very good and the settings are easy to use. If being jerked awake with typical alarms makes you cranky this clock is for you.

It works exactly as described. I have had this alarm clock for a year now and I still LOVE it! It is so nice to wake up naturally without buzzing alarms that jolt me out of sleep abruptly. No matter how early I have to wake up, this alarm clock manages to get me up gently and naturally. I use the lights and the radio in the morning. The lights progressively get brighter and the radio volume starts off very low and slowly rises to my preset level. It is also nice to fall to sleep using the ambient noises supplied. They are very affective, but I don't tend to use them very much. Lastly, I have to mention that the construction of this clock is top notch. It is very solid and does not have a lot of cheap plastic.

I really wanted one of the cheaper light/alarm clocks, but as I researched them on [@] they all seemed to get pretty mixed reviews (poor "yellowish" light quality, limited/tinny sound capability, lack of dual setting capacity (sleep and wake at the same time)) ...having seen what else is on the market was the ONLY way I'd consider paying this much for an alarm clock. This product seems to answer all the bad reviews for cheaper models. Moreover, using it is a pleasure. I wake up to a glowing light in my room and the sound of crashing waves. One concern I had was whether the sounds would be *too* soothing to wake me up. Initially, I turned the volume at full blast, which was just as jarring and unpleasant as waking up to a traditional alarm. Because of this, at first I had the same problem I have with traditional alarms, which is the impulse to make the noise stop, climb back into bed, and forget the whole "waking up" thing ever happened. What I didn't consider, though, is that loud noises become less necessary when when you add light as a factor. The led panel tilts, so you can have light directly hitting your eyelids. Finally I decided to turn the volume down - you even have the option to turn the sound off altogether - and trust that the light, combined with *gentle* soothing sounds, would wake me up. Oh... did it ever. What an amazing experience. It definitely wakes me up, there's no question. It just doesn't happen with a jolt - I wake up gradually, and peacefully, and in a totally different state of mind. Bottom line: it's expensive but it works. So, definitely worth it, *if* you need it. In my profession, I have long days and I have to get the most out of them. To me, this clock is an invaluable resource. Otherwise, I'd be hesitant, given the price. As for me, Verilux has a new loyal customer.

My old alarm clock used to wake me with a sudden jolt. This alarm clock wakes one up much slower. I ve read that this is supposed to be much better for you as it allows your rem cycles to complete. In any event I like it.
